Sustainability

At Beemster, creating the best cheese goes beyond great taste. We’re committed to ensuring the health and happiness of our cows, our farmers, and the planet. For us, this means offering living wages for our team, protecting our land, and conserving energy. Most importantly, we treat our cows like they’re part of the family.

Raising happy, healthy cows is at the core of Beemster’s commitment to sustainability. Our herds graze on pesticide-free pastures, and we never use artificial hormones. In return, our cows produce the rich, creamy milk we use to make exceptional cheeses. You can taste the difference and it’s a taste you can feel good about.

Flavor

Thanks to its unique slate-blue clay soil, the Beemster Polder yields grasses more fertile and rich in minerals and nutrients than others. Our herds love to graze on these lush pastures and produce the incredibly sweet, creamy, and good-for-you milk we use to make our award-winning Premium Dutch Cheese.

tradition

Heritage and history are at the heart of Beemster. Our farmer-owned cooperative was founded in 1901 to protect the land and establish the quality and standards that continue to define Beemster Premium Dutch Cheese. To this day, we stir the curds by hand,  our brine can be traced back to the mother brine from the co-op’s founding in 1901 and our cheeses age slowly and naturally on wooden planks in historic stone warehouses. Now, we have the greenest dairy that allows us to modernize production, yet retain these artisanal methods that capture our legendary flavor and delectable creaminess.
